ABSTRACT

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a major cause of blindness. Exudates are one of the primary signs of diabetic retinopathy, which is a main cause of blindness and can be prevented with an early screening process. Early detection of exudates could improve patient?s chances to avoid blindness. But detection of exudates in early stages of the disease is extremely difficult only by visual inspection because of small diameter of human eye. A new method for the detection of exudates using intensity thresholding and segmentation is proposed which removes the optic disc automatically from exudates.
